Alvin “Al” Shapero, 91 1/2, son of William and Fannie Shapero of Blessed Memory, passed away peacefully on March 10. Husband of Susan Winer, father of Lisa (David) Merkin, Paul Shapero and Stacie Shapero. Stepfather to Hillary (Jonathan) Israel. Grandfather to Jocelyn, Amanda, Jacob and Lexi.
Al was born in Chester, PA, and moved to Baltimore when he was in elementary school. He graduated from Forest Park High School. After a stint in the Army of several years, he went into the scrap metal/recycling business with Montgomery Scrap, and then ABC Salvage.
Upon retirement, he became an active volunteer at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center for several years where he was honored with a volunteer of the year award. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Medstar Montgomery Medical Center or a charity of your choice.
