It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we celebrate the life of Barry Wertlieb, who passed away on Oct. 11. He made the world brighter, funnier and infinitely more loving. Barry was a longtime resident of Potomac, MD. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A native Washingtonian, Barry was a proud graduate of the University of Maryland and Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity. Barry began his career at Giant Food back in the 1960s and founded VISTA Management in the early 1970s. He was a longtime member of Congregation Har Shalom where he served as president from 1982 to 1984.
Barry is survived by his loving wife Rita of 61 years and their two children Lauren Haven and Scott Wertlieb (Marcie) and his four grandchildren, Brenna Weisenbach (Thomas), Sam Haven, Zoe Wertlieb and Sela Wertlieb and his great-granddaughter, Charley Grace Weisenbach, his sister, Eva Cichy (Gerald) and the late Ilene Abrams. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Barry had a remarkable gift, he made everyone feel like they were his best buddy. Whether you knew him for decades or just met him, he had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality bigger than life. To be loved by Barry was to be truly known.
