Bruce J. Heiman, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on March 29 at the age of 70, after bravely fighting lymphoma.

Born in New York City and raised in Malibu, California, Bruce carried with him a lifelong love of scholarship, service and family. He earned joint degrees in law and public policy from Harvard Law School and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Early in his career, Bruce served as legislative director and trade counsel to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He distinguished himself as a leader in the policy practice at K&L Gates, where he worked for 45 years. Bruce’s strategic insight, ability to build coalitions and steadfast commitment to his clients were greatly admired.

Bruce was known not only for his professional accomplishments, but also for his integrity, kindness and warm spirit. He was a loyal friend to many and avidly cheered on the Washington Nationals.

Bruce’s greatest pride and joy in life came from the family he built with his beloved wife, Diane Barzman Heiman; and his adored daughters, Allison (Laurel Lehman) Heiman and Carolyn (Glenn) Rivkees. He is also survived by his sisters, Roberta Heiman and Deborah Ketelsen.

May his memory be a blessing. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Washington Hebrew Congregation in his memory. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
