On Feb. 7, Charles Morton Berman, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 68 years to Benita Berman. Devoted father of Jenifer (Andrew Green) and Nancye Berman. Cherished grandfather (“Gee”) of Samantha Marshall, Alexis Marshall, Emily Green and Oliver Green. Predeceased in death by his parents Louis and Lillian Berman.
Charlie was born Jan. 9, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. After spending his early years in Brooklyn, he moved to Miami Beach, where he attended Miami Beach High School and the University of Florida, where he met Benita. After a two-year courtship they were married in 1956 in Miami Beach and eventually settled in Washington, D.C., where he built his construction business and they raised their daughters, Jenifer and Nancye. Charlie was an amazing storyteller — he could regale anyone with tales of his youth in Miami and his 16 months in the Army in Korea.
Charlie was sharp and quick-witted — he was still charming the hospital staff in his final days. The rock of his family, he took a huge amount of pride in hard work; had a voracious love for travel (and cookies) and was an avid walker. We hope he’s walking up the hill now to Whole Foods.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Florida, M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management, The Trevor Project or the C&O Canal Trust. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
