Donald J. Herman passed away peacefully in his home on Sept. 4. He was 85. Beloved husband of 60 years to wife Doris; father of Joseph, Brenda and Joshua; and grandfather to Ricki, Jennifer, Jamie, Eliana, Gloria, Sadie and Leo. Graduated from Newark College of Engineering as a systems engineer, was a lieutenant in the Air Force, and worked to develop the first cobol compiler. He worked for IBM, was recruited to EDS and then completed his career as a government contractor. In retirement he became an award-winning sculptor and master wood craftsman.
