It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Craig Adam Spelke on May 4, at the early age of 35. Craig finally succumbed after a lifelong battle with cancer at his home in Rockville, Maryland surrounded by his family. Throughout his life, Craig exemplified the courage, stamina and persistence needed to battle his disease. He is survived by his wife, Jordan, his sister Samantha, his stepbrother Daniel Gudelsky, his mother Meryl Gudelsky, his father Robert A. Spelke, his stepfather Marc Gudelsky, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and many others.
Craig was a native of the DMV area from Rockville. He graduated from Walter Johnson High School. He obtained his bachelor of biological sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He went on to receive his doctorate of optometry from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. He returned to the DMV area to work at the New Era Eye Care Center in Virginia and most recently at The Eye Center in Rockville.
Craig married the love of his life, Jordan, on May 5, 2024. While together for a short period of time, their time together brought Craig much joy and happiness. Craig was best known for his unwavering devotion to the Washington Capitals hockey team, his cat, Oshie, (named after one of his favorite Washington Capital players) and his love for travel. Craig traveled the world with Jordan, his family and friends exploring historical places, discovering differing cultures, experiencing exotic venues and adventurous journeys.
His untimely departure has been gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contribution in Craig’s name to the Ulman Foundation, 2118 E. Madison Street, Baltimore, MD 21205.
