Eugene “Gene” Schrier, 87, passed away peacefully on August 15 in Silver Spring, MD. He was born on September 8, 1936, in New York to Samuel & Yetta Schrier; the youngest of four boys (preceded by brothers Arnold, Eddie & Morty). He moved to Mount Rainer, MD at a young age, married Sheila Silverstein and raised his family in Silver Spring, MD. He is survived by his children Stacy Hudson (Keith), Scott Schrier (Pam) and Cindy Zahl (Adam) and his grandchildren Evan & Cecily Hudson; Rebekah, Rachel & Ryan Schrier; and Olivia & Abigail Zahl. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews local to Montgomery County, across the country and internationally.
He recently moved to Hillhaven Nursing Home under the care of his beloved aide, Maria Kamara. Gene was an avid sports fan and very loyal to his Washington “Redskins” as an original season ticket holder taking his family to RFK Stadium throughout the season. He was the owner of Veterans Liquors in Beltsville, MD for over 30 years where the store became an avid sponsor of local softball teams to continue Gene’s love of sports for the community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene’s honor may be made to the American Heart Association. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc.
