  • Provides a complete scouting experience in a Jewish context. Scouts come from all parts of Montgomery County and represent a broad spectrum of religious observance. The troop is shomer Shabbat v'kashrut (observes the Sabbath and the kosher dietary laws) in all its activities so that all Jewish scouts as well as other Saturday Sabbath observers can participate in, and benefit from, the scouting program. Aims to build character, fitness and citizenship through the indoor program (meetings and merit badges) and the outdoor program (camping and hiking). Troop 1948 comprises young scouts and a core of senior scouts as well as experienced, trained adult leaders.

  • Tween Mitzvah Corps, for grades 6-8, provides an opportunity to socialize with friends while giving back to the community. Some projects will fulfill school community service requirements. Teen Mitzvah Corps, for grades 9-12, helps students find meaningful ongoing community service projects at the JCCGW. Can choose a few hours a week or month participating in activities. Projects already approved to fulfill School Service Learning (SSL) hours for Montgomery County public schools. Private school students need to gain approval from their school guidance counselors before earning community service hours. Volunteer opportunities include teaching computer skills to adults, assisting with youth sports classes and the Jr. JCC Maccabi Club, and helping out in early childhood, afterschool or special needs programs.

  • Taglit-birthright israel provides the gift of first time, peer group and educational trips to Israel for Jewish young adults ages 18 to 26. Taglit-birthright israel operates on a belief that it is every Jewish person's birthright to visit Israel. The founders created this 10-day trip to send thousands of young Jewish adults from all over the world to Israel as a gift in order to diminish the growing division between Israel and Jewish communities around the world; to strengthen the sense of solidarity among world Jewry; and the strengthen each participant's personal Jewish identity and connection to the Jewish people.
