Gail Letzter, 64, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on Sept. 19. Gail was born in Nyack, New York, to Fredrick Letzter (of blessed memory) and Ann Letzter. She was the beloved wife of Daniel Farkas, loving mother of Rebecca Farkas (Kevin Nicastro) and Miriam Farkas (Benjamin Gammage), grandmother of Annabelle Nicastro and Bia Gammage and sister of Edward Letzter and Jennifer Hoffman.
A mathematician with a passion for music, Jewish culture and puppet-making, Gail was devoted to her family and the people around her. She worked tirelessly to support women in mathematics and the broader mathematics community through her service and mentorship. Known for her empathy and intense joy of life, Gail will be dearly missed. Donations should be made to whatever charities best celebrate the person she was.
