Gerald Lee Tievy, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 18 at the age of 86. Born on Oct. 29, 1938, Gerald dedicated his life to family, service, and building a legacy through hard work, integrity and living every day with purpose.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force and the D.C. Air National Guard, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his country and community. In 1960, Gerald founded Tievy Electric, earning Maryland State Electrical License number 27 — a testament to his uncanny ability to fix and build anything. His entrepreneurial drive continued with the creation of Superior Communication in 1973, expanding his influence and leadership in the industry. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gerald also had a passion for saltwater fish, photography and tinkering in his wood shop.

Above all else, Gerald was a family man. He was married to the love of his life, Jackie Tievy, for more than 40 years before her untimely passing in 2002. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter and devotion, raising six children and embracing the joys of 15 grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his children: David, Ron (Jill), Kenny (Dana), Lisa (Ron) Hurley, Steve (Lisa) and Melissa (Jeff) Mahan. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bryan, Erika, Rob, Ashlea, Josh, Sara, Alec, Julia, Carlie, Aaron, Noah, Jake, Olivia, Addison and Chloe, and by his brothers, Steve and Mike Tievy.

Known for his fierce work ethic, generosity and steadfast presence, Gerald never missed a moment that mattered. He took pride in showing up — for his family, his friends, his employees and his community. His influence extended far beyond his professional accomplishments; he was a mentor, a role model and a source of strength and support to all who knew him. Gerald’s legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the businesses he built and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his love and the values he instilled in those around him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (raiseyourway.donordrive.com/campaign/In-memory-of-Gerald-L–Tievy).
