On Aug. 11, Helene Kurtzman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 93.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Helene led a full and vibrant life centered around her deep love for family and the many cherished friendships she cultivated over the years. She was married to the love of her life, Sol Kurtzman, for 52 wonderful years. Together, they built a warm, loving home and supported one another throughout Sol’s long and distinguished career in the federal government.

Helene was the proud mother of Allen (Robin), Leonard (Chris), and Beth, and a devoted “Grammy” to Bradley, Ryan, Brooke, Julie and Bobby. Recently, she became a great-grandmother to Quinn, whose arrival brought her tremendous happiness. She is also survived by her sister-in-law of 67 years, Sybil Gray, as well as several loving nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who deeply enriched her life. Helene was predeceased by her husband Sol, her parents, Lenore and Jack, and her brother, Barry.

Before raising her family, Helene worked as an accomplished schoolteacher. She later enjoyed a fulfilling career at the Department of Health and Human Services, where she made meaningful contributions and formed lasting friendships. Helene had a passion for travel, was an avid bridge player, and found joy in square dancing.

Towards the end of her life, Helene was blessed to have met Fatmata, Kumba, Brenda and “Z,” her aides for the last several years who provided her the love, support and assistance that she needed. They were much more than aides; they were her friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Helene’s memory to a charity of your choice.

Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
