On Feb. 28, Herman M. Braude of Rockville, Maryland passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Marcey S. Braude; devoted father of Sherrie Mitchell (Chip Mitchell), Brett Braude (Rinda “Gai” Namwong), and Darren Braude (Jana Sedlakova); Loving brother of Rochelle Apfelroth; Beloved brother-in-law of Marjorie Berman; Cherished grandfather of Matthew Mitchell (Katherine Mitchell), Sydni Cohen (Zachary Cohen), Jake Mitchell (Allissa Mitchell), Mayan Braude (Teddy Hookey), Noam Braude, Talia Braude, Brooklyn Braude and Dominik Sedlak-Braude; Cherished great-grandfather of Jordie Cohen, Chase Cohen and Brodie Mitchell; cherished uncle of Stephen Apfelroth (Hui Zhang).

Herman was born into an immigrant family in Brooklyn, and was a proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (full scholarship in Civil Engineering), and Georgetown University Law Center. For more than fifty years, Herman earned recognition as one of America’s preeminent construction and government contract attorneys, at his peak, extending Braude Law Group’s practice to Hawaii, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. He was also one of the leading figures in Maryland’s horse racing industry and he owned a number of highly successful racehorses over five decades.

Most importantly, Herman deeply and passionately loved his wife of 63 years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He instilled the values of hard work, self-reliance and resiliency in the face of adversity in his children and grandchildren, who now live all over the world and carry forward his legacy. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Montgomery Hospice.
