Jennifer Eisenfeld loves what she does as a residential designer, a job she’s done for three decades.
Through her business, Jennifer Eisenfeld Design, the Rockville resident helps design new houses, works with architects, renovates rooms and selects furniture.
“We have a lot of fun picking things out and talking about how to make a space function better,” Eisenfeld said, adding that she’s grateful for her many repeat clients.
Eisenfeld notably does not advertise her services. Instead, her clients are almost always referrals from other clients.
She considers herself a “very practical designer.” Sometimes, Eisenfeld said, you look at someone’s home and know exactly who designed it because “everything looks the same.” But she doesn’t take a cookie-cutter approach.
“What you’ll find with my design is that I cater to the client, so everything looks different because it’s the client’s taste; it’s the client’s home,” Eisenfeld said. “I really try to listen. I try to give the client what they would like to see in their home, but sometimes I elevate it.”
If a client has difficulty visualizing a space, she’ll provide drawings for them to choose from.
“I believe in partnering closely with my clients, contractors and trades throughout every stage of a project,” Eisenfeld said, adding that collaboration smooths out the process.
Her passion dates back to her college days studying interior design at Ohio University.
“I really care about each of my projects,” she said.
One of Eisenfeld’s recent successes is a large renovation that involved a lot of rearranging. She took a fireplace that was in the center of a living room and moved it to another wall, opening up space on the original wall.
Eisenfeld works with clients who have a wide range of budgets, and strives to do her best work while staying within those parameters.
“It’s not my home. It’s not a magazine’s home,” Eisenfeld said. “So I think it’s important that people feel comfortable and proud of their space.”
