Julianna Margulies talks ‘Good Wife’ shocker

For fans who haven’t seen last Sunday’s episode of The Good Wife, stop reading now.

Emmy-winning star Julianna Margulies had to keep the secret of co-star Josh Charles’ planned exit for about a year (both stars are Jewish, and Charles is a Baltimore native). But now it’s out in the open and fans are shocked: Main character Will Gardner, portrayed by Charles since Season 1, is dead. Alicia Florrick’s (Margulies) former law firm senior partner and love interest since the beginning of the show, was abruptly killed in a courtroom during a shooting rampage by a deranged client.

Margulies took to Facebook to answer fans’ questions, one of which asked
whether the writers had informed her of Will’s demise.

“They are so respectful, they ran it by me first before bringing it to the network, and Josh and I both thought it was a brilliant idea,” Margulies wrote. “I think this death brings out a very new and different Alicia.”

On whether Alicia will find love again, she responded, “I hope so, don’t we all wish that for anyone who has lost a love in their life? That being said, it will take a long time.”

In an open letter to fans, show creators Robert and Michelle Kling said Will’s death is just the latest part of Alicia’s evolution.

The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on CBS. — I.Z.
