On Oct. 30, Kenneth B. Friedman passed away peacefully in Ashburn, Virginia. Ken was the beloved husband of Janice L. Jacobs; devoted stepfather of Eric A. Fichte and Kurt M. Fichte (deceased); loving brother of Robert H. Friedman; cherished uncle of Sarah Grossbard, Joshua Friedman and Julia Friedman; loving cousin of Lanie Adler, Martin Cohen and Susan Anolik; and cherished nephew of Sandy Freedman. Ken was predeceased by his father, Samuel Friedman, and mother, Elda Nusbaum Friedman.
Ken received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and law degree from Seton Hall. He served in the Army from 1969 to 1970 and the New Jersey National Guard from 1970 to 1975. A devoted public servant, he worked in human resources at the Office of Personnel Management, the Merit Systems Protection Board, the Department of Navy, and Department of Defense.
Travel was a passion for Ken, including a trip to Paris in 1984 where he met his wife, Janice. He helped raise two stepsons, staying with them in the U.S. when their mother was assigned overseas with the Foreign Service. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, he lived in Boston, Atlanta, Miami (where he practiced law), and Arlington, Va. He enjoyed watching golf, baseball and college football.
Ken was a member of Etz Hayim Congregation in Arlington, Virginia, and an active member of the Jewish community at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia. All who knew Ken admired him for his selfless, kind and friendly manner. He will be sorely missed. Donations can be made to the Michael J.
