Letter to the Editor: ‘Jews Have Found a Home in DC. The DSA Is Trying to Take It Away.’

0

The Montgomery County Education Association has endorsed every DSA-aligned candidate for County Council. This is not neutral — it affects our schools and our community. Ron Halber’s op-ed on the dangers of the Democratic Socialists of America is important — but not enough.

Union members raised concerns — citing the DSA questionnaire and candidate responses that reveal troubling positions on Israel, antisemitism and broader community values — but were told “proper processes” were followed.

Process alone cannot excuse decisions that normalize antisemitic rhetoric. For Jewish educators, students and families, this is personal. Adult messages shape school climate.

Elevating such candidates signals that Jewish students’ concerns may be minimized and educators’ voices may be unwelcome. Voters deserve transparency. It is not enough to rely on the Apple Ballot; research candidates carefully and choose leaders who ensure safe, inclusive, respectful schools.
