This letter is in response to ‘Maryland Jews Grapple With Raskin’s Backing of Block the Bombs Act’ (News, Aug. 28)
Rep. Jamie Raskin has joined Maryland Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks in depriving Israel of what it needs to survive the 22-month-long onslaught by depraved enemies intent on its destruction. With over 1,200 murdered Israelis including over 40 Americans, with Hamas vowing to repeat Oct. 7, with suicide drones and ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis and Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi declaring “Yemen will deliver a crushing response that the Zionist criminals will regret,” it seems logical that Raskin, et al., would do just the opposite.
Whether it’s fear of upsetting the vociferous other side, fear of personal safety, fear of losing one’s political position, or something else, I’ve stopped trying to understand intentions and remind myself instead that I, and other Israel supporters, can ill afford to sleep or slumber in our quest to stand for the one Middle East democracy. To borrow from “Alice in Wonderland,” “It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.”
