Montgomery County Council candidate Josie Caballero pledges to publicly support the BDS movement and end all Montgomery County funding to Israel; seeks to overturn the anti-BDS law signed by former Gov. Larry Hogan; and opposes an official adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism.

Are we therefore to be comforted by her senior staff member (who spoke on condition of anonymity) that Ms. Caballero is “an ally in this fight against antisemitism” or that she’s “heartbroken” that anything she said could “cause pain for members of our community”?

Paraphrasing Ken Reid of End Jew Hatred, the Montgomery County Council shouldn’t be involved in international issues. Rather, its focus should be on crime prevention, zoning, road maintenance and other matters affecting Montgomery County residents.

Leann Sherman, Rockville
