I very much appreciate Zoe Bell’s Feb. 26 article, “Meredith Polsky: Gaithersburg Resident Champions Disability Inclusion in Jewish Spaces.” In 2015, I worked with Meredith Polsky on a presentation for a Matan conference about my experiences in the Jewish community on the autism spectrum, particularly in education, and as a self-advocate. Polsky has been an important mentor, and one of the most meaningful things that I have learned from her is to use my truth and voice to make an impact on the issues that I care about. I have remembered that advice throughout my self-advocacy and am delighted to see Ms. Bell’s article highlighting Meredith Polsky’s work.
In particular, I appreciate the quote from Polsky that inclusion “really has to be a collective effort.” May we all continue this work.
