Letter to the Editor: Remembering Charlie Kirk

0

The media have generally been reasonable in their comments following the terrible assassination of Charlie Kirk, a man who was sincere in his belief of a higher authority and the need for more understanding between the rest of us.

It is unfortunate that too many in the media have concentrated on his allegiance to Christianity, rather than his strong belief in God, which is common to the adherents of major religions, emphasizing tolerance and understanding to all living creatures.

Kirk has been quoted frequently: “The solution to our problems lies with our lack of closeness to God, not more government.” It seems inexplicable that there remain those who do not see the underlying truth in such a statement. Wanting to kill someone because of disagreement of ideas is disgusting, and indeed inhuman, and others who try to contextualize such behavior are refusing to recognize pure evil.

Hopefully the sad loss of Charlie Kirk will result in a change for the better in our society. We certainly need to hope for improvement as we welcome in 5786.
