Letter to the Editor: ‘The War Netanyahu Always Wanted’

Your otherwise thoughtful March 12 editorial, “The War Netanyahu Always Wanted,” is poorly titled in a way that distorts the editorial’s actual focus, and masks Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wise approach dealing with the persistent threat posed by Iran’s demonic Islamist regime. Netanyahu’s approach has been marked by his enduring vigilance, keen vision, and an extraordinary display of political and diplomatic acumen over a period spanning decades.

That threat has been building steadily since 1979 when a revolutionary and brutal Islamic regime was imposed on the Iranian people. Ever since, that regime has been devoted to the destruction of Western civilization’s two greatest bulwarks of liberty and justice, the United States and Israel. It has taken exceptional Western leaders such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump to fully understand the gravity and nature of the threat.

From this perspective, the present war against the Islamic extremists of Iran should not be viewed as a “strategic gamble” for Israel and the Jewish world. Instead, the war should be viewed as a just and necessary battle not only for Israel and the Jewish people, but for the future of Western civilization as well.
