Jerzy Ficowski, 82,Polish poet
Jerzy Ficowski, a Polish poet, translator and essayist renowned for works that dealt with Holocaust themes, died at age 82.

Ficowski, who died May 9 in Warsaw, was not Jewish, but he wrote powerful poems about the Holocaust and the impact that the murder of Polish Jews had on Poland.

He also wrote extensively about Roma, or Gypsies, and was a leading expert on the life and work of the Polish Jewish writer and artist Bruno Schulz, who was killed in the Holocaust. ‹ JTA
