Local groups tied to Madoff through UJEF
Thirteen local synagogues, day schools and agencies had all or part of their endowments tied into the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington's United Jewish Endowment Fund, which had $10 million in assets invested with Bernard Madoff's investment agency.

They are:

¥--Congregation B'nai Tzedek in Potomac

¥--Congregation Beth El in Bethesda

¥--B'nai B'rith Youth Organization of Greater Washington

¥--George Washington University Hillel

¥--Gesher Jewish Day School of Northern Virginia in Fairfax

¥--Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy in Rockville

¥--Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capital in the District

¥--Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington

¥--Washington DCJCC

¥--JCC of Northern Virginia

¥--Jewish Council for the Aging

¥--Jewish Foundation for Group Homes

¥--University of Maryland Hillel

¥--Operation Embrace

¥--Ben and Esther Rosenbloom Hillel Center for Jewish Life at the U. Md.

In addition, the Curt C. and Else Silberman Foundation and the Greater Washington Jewish Community Foundation have holdings in UJEF.

I was shocked to learn about Madoff's fraudulent activities. That should be a lesson to any prospective investors to check where they are investing, be sure they can trust the person doing the investing. Also, when something sounds like it is too good to be true, it probably is. But, investor should always be aware.
