Mildred “Mimi” Levine, pioneering woman in technology and antiques and founding family member of Congregation Olam Tikvah of Fairfax, dies at 92.
Mimi Levine passed away peacefully on March 1, in Springfield, VA, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and devoted family love.
Born on Dec. 7, 1932, in Albany, NY, to Julius and Gertrude Cohen, Mimi was an exceptional student from the start, setting the stage for a remarkable academic and professional journey.
A 1954 Cornell University graduate in mathematics and physics, Mimi was a pioneering woman in technology at IBM, where she helped shape the early landscape of computing. Beyond her technical career, she was an entrepreneurial spirit who built a thriving antiques business. She maintained a lifelong intellectual curiosity, reading avidly and embracing new technologies.
Mimi is survived by her beloved husband of over 70 years, Leonard Levine; four children, David (Marilyn), Cindy, Steven (José) and Edward (Vicki); five grandchildren, Amy (John) Gorlinsky, Zane Powell, Julia (Adam) Levine, Ben Levine and Alexandra Levine; two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Hannah Jo Gorlinsky, and three sisters, Barbara Schnautz, Selma Kunitz and Phyllis Rappaport as well as extended family. Her legacy lives on through each of them.
Mimi Levine will be remembered as a trailblazer who defied the limitations of her time, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman who never stopped learning, creating and inspiring those around her.
