Nestor Ratesh passed away on Oct. 31 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Moinesti, Romania, in 1933 and worked for the Romanian press agency AGERPRES.
In 1973, Nestor emigrated with his family to the United States, sponsored by Martin and Connie Kamerow, and settled in the Washington Metropolitan area. Hired by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Nestor worked here with distinction until retirement, first as reporter, then as director of the Romanian Service.
Nestor Ratesh is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ioana “Hansi”, daughter Gabriela Miller, granddaughter Becky Miller, grandson Ethan (Rachel) Miller, and great-granddaughter Gemma.
