Richard Maggin of Potomac, Maryland, died on Jan. 29 at the age of 71. Rick was born to Frances and Bernard Maggin on June 27, 1953.

After graduating from the University of Maryland, Rick worked as the president of Harvey Construction before leaving to start Maggin Construction with his brother, Ken, where they participated in the development of office, residential, retail, and municipal facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions. Rick’s life was one of love and work, conveyed through action, not words. His life taught all who knew him to never let a problem linger, to attend to the needs of the present while building for future that would survive him, and to treat others with unending patience and understanding.

His life taught that the essence of love is the assumption of responsibility—for one’s home, one’s family, friends, and community. Not a day of his was spent in idleness. Whether helping his children, working around the house, pursuing new opportunities in business, or searching for the alchemist’s secret of a consistent five-wood swing, Rick did not waste his time. He never spared himself; he put all he had into life, his family and his work. He earned his rest.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna; his children, Zach (Amanda), Leah (Adam), Austen and Mitchell; his grandsons, Jordan and Henry; his brothers, Robert (Mary), Wayne (Suzanne), Ken (Susan) and his many loved nieces and nephews. He joins now his son, Joshua and his parents, Frances and Bernard. Donations in Rick’s name may be made to Children’s Hospital or Birthright Israel, two organizations he supported throughout his life.
