On Nov. 6, Roberto B. Friedman, age 85, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away surrounded by his loving family. His life was defined by devotion to his wife and a deep love for his family and friends, dedication to his work and a lifelong passion for travel.

Born on Feb. 17, 1940, in Montevideo, Uruguay, Mr. Friedman later moved to Chile and then to the United States to pursue graduate studies in economics at the University of Pittsburgh, where he met his beloved wife, Marie, in 1966. United in marriage for 58 years, they shared a life rich in love and full of cherished memories, traveling widely and cultivating lasting friendships around the world.

Mr. Friedman enjoyed a distinguished career with the Inter-American Development Bank, retiring in 1998. His work advanced economic development throughout the Americas, and his intellect, integrity and generosity earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; sister-in-law, Aggi Wallach; nephew, Daniel Goldmann (Sharon); nieces, Vivian Goldmann (Patricia), Elyse Wolff (Keith) and Rachel Baker (Aaron); five great-nieces, a great-nephew, extended family members and friends, all of whom loved him dearly. Mr. Friedman will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the enduring love he shared with those closest to him.
