Ronald New, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 18 at the age of 91.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan New; his devoted children Elisa New (Lawrence Summers) and Andy New (Cheryl); his cherished grandchildren Alexi Peters (Robert), Michael New (Prestin), Justin New, Teddy New, Yael Levine (Alex Kieselstein), Orli Levine-Rozenvayn (Greg Levine-Rozenvayn), and Maya Levine; his great grandchildren, Quinn New and Mila Kay Levine; his sister-in-law, Charlotte New; his nieces, Pam Saltzburg (Robert) and Linda Forman, and his nephew, David New. He was predeceased by his loving and adored brother, Jerry New.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ron met Joan at the age of 14 and spent 76 beautiful years together. He attended Drexel University where he received his B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering. In 1964, he moved Joan, Elisa and Andy to the suburbs of Washington, DC to work as an engineer, then completed a Ph.D. in applied physics at Catholic University. As a physicist, Ronald worked in private industry and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for over two decades. He was also a passionate learner and teacher, and he taught a variety of courses at Catholic University, the University of Cape Town, South Africa and Capitol Institute of Technology before, in his 50s, returning to school to earn an M.S in computer science from Johns Hopkins University. He then enjoyed a teaching career as both instructor and tutor for many years. Ron New had a profound impact on everyone who knew him — but especially on his grandchildren as their beloved Pop-Pop.
