On Aug. 8, Shirley Beek of Rockville passed peacefully. Beloved Wife of the late Herman; devoted mother of Karen (Richard) Perkins, Douglas (Melissa) Beek, Clifford (Lisa) Beek; cherished grandmother of Nicole (Todd) Forster, Alex (Jenny) Perkins, Jennifer (Bradley) Hunter, Jonathan Beek, Mollie Beek and Remi Beek; also survived by five great-grandchildren.
Born June 12, 1925 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She moved to Washington, D.C., upon high school graduation in 1943 to work for the Department of Navy to sell War Bonds. Shirley met the love of her life, Herman, at a JCC dance on 16th Street. He was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time. They married July 18, 1948, and enjoyed 52 blessed years of marriage.
Shirley was a pioneer for working women, having established a career within the U.S. government and then successfully transitioning to a career in the residential real estate industry.
