It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Simon Getachew, who left us suddenly and tragically on Oct. 12 in Washington, D.C. He was 30 years old.
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Simon came to the United States in his youth, where he attended middle and high school and built a life filled with purpose, laughter and connection. He lived fully surrounded by those who loved him and his kindness, humor and radiant spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Simon is deeply mourned by his parents and sister, along with countless friends and extended family who will forever cherish his memory.
Simon’s life was a testament to love, joy and perseverance. His warm heart inspired those around him, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.
