Yonah Alexander

On April 25, Yonah Alexander of Potomac, Maryland, passed away peacefully. Yonah was the beloved husband of Miriam Alexander, devoted father of Daphne Alexander Halpern (Irwin) and Dean C. Alexander (Julieta), and cherished grandfather of Alex Ian Halpern, Joel Seth Halpern and David Liam Alexander. The funeral and burial are private. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Magen David Adom or the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.

As a pioneer in the academic study of international terrorism, Professor Alexander served for more than 40 years at universities in the United States and abroad, followed by 25 years at academic think tanks. He founded and edited several international academic journals, and published more than 100 books and numerous studies on international security.

Professor Alexander’s works have been translated into many languages. He lectured in dozens of countries and appeared extensively in international media. Professor Alexander’s personal papers and terrorism collection are housed at the Hoover Institution Library and Archives at Stanford University.
