Alfred R. Sorkowitz passed away on Oct. 4 at the age of 89. He grew up in the Bronx, N.Y., and was the son of Isidore and Gussie Sorkowitz, Jewish emigrants from Poland. He graduated from the City College of New York and then served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He retired as a computer scientist with the Department of the Navy. After retirement, he presented seminars at software conferences and software training sessions in the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lesley Duffield Sorkowitz; his son, Daniel Sorkowitz (Jennifer); his delightful grandson, Isaac; his daughter, Elizabeth Sea; his sister, Annette Rothman; and his nephew, Mathew.
