Barry Schwartz, of Silver Spring, died on Oct. 1. He was 76.
Schwartz was the owner of BJ Pumpnickel’s, a deli in Olney that closed in 2010. During his 31-year-long run as owner, the restaurant gained a large following in part due its food, including a pickle bar and “mile high” cakes. But, even though the restaurant was gone, Schwartz continued to support a variety of neighborhood organizations and projects, according to the Greater Olney News.
In addition to his wife, Paula, Schwartz is survived by his children, Marc (Nicole), Dorie and Adam (Kelly), and four grandchildren.
