Benjamin Alexander Miller, beloved son of Ira and Barbara Miller, died peacefully on Oct. 17 at the age of 41. He was born Jan. 11, 1980. The cause of Ben’s death was complications from Stage 4 colon cancer, diagnosed in October 2017. Despite an orthopedic condition known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which was diagnosed at birth, Ben was active in the community. He graduated from Whitman High School in 1999 and attended Montgomery College, Penn State University and Iowa Wesleyan. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 2009.
In 2010, he moved to his own apartment in Rockville Town Square. Ben worked as a computer tutor at the Rockville Memorial Library for several years. He also volunteered as a reading tutor at The Arc and Forest Knolls Elementary School. In order to live as independently as possible, Ben was supported by a wonderful group of caregivers through the Jewish Foundation of Group Homes. He was a member of Beth Chai Humanist Congregation and regularly participated in adult education sessions there. Ben was preceded in death by his sister, Amy, his brother, David, and his father, Ira.
