Shelley and Todd Engel of Columbia announce the engagement of their daughter Jayme Engel to Staff Sgt. Justin Boling of Jeffersonville, Ind.
Jayme is the granddaughter of Mickey and Sheila Myers and Lois Engel, all of Silver Spring, and the late Norman Engel.
A New Year’s Eve wedding is planned.
Dr. Herbert Block of Silver Spring, will celebrate his 100th birthday on Sept. 10 with a gathering of friends and family from around the country. He was born on Sept. 10, 1916, in Syracuse, N.Y., to parents who immigrated from what was then the Lithuanian province of the Russian Empire. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a doctorate from New York University. Between 1955 and 1974, Block held positions in the Post Office, retiring as deputy assistant postmaster general. He has three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In honor of his birthday, Block has donated a set of Shabbat/festival prayerbooks to his synagogue, Shaare Tefila Congregation in Olney, where he will be honored at Shabbat morning services. He plans to lead his great-grandchildren in singing “Adon Olam.”
