David Sherman Siegel

David Sherman Siegel passed away on Dec. 23, at Suburban Hospital after fighting heart disease and lymphoma. He was 86. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., David lived most of his life in Silver Spring. Graduating from City College of New York with a degree in physics, he received his master’s degree from American University.
Starting at the Bureau of Standards, he spent most of his career at the Office of Naval Research, enjoying the integration of science and project management. He and wife of 60 years, Betty Pitt, have three children: Ellen (Ted Chanin), Doug (Susanne Wilson) and Rachel (Brian Boxman). Grandchildren Alycia and Matthew Chanin, Sarah Siegel and Naomi and Leah Boxman were bright stars in his life. David is also survived by his sister, Linda Buchsbaum, and her children, Marisa and Lee; as well as by sister-in-law Elaine Weisblatt and daughter Wendy.
