On April 14, Edwin Collier, 90, of Silver Spring, devoted husband of 62 years to Ellen Clodfelter Collier; loving father of Stephen (Sandy), Surry, Me.; Martha Riva (the late Valentin Riva), N. Bethesda; Sarah Munsey (Dan), Philadelphia; John (Chris), Vienna, Va.; Catherine Fiorello (Dominic), Cicero, N.Y. Cherished grandfather of Peter (Pi) Collier and the late Andy Collier; Clare, Michael and David Riva; Laura, Lisa, Ginger and Julie Collier; Anthony, Nikky and Danielle Fiorello; dear brother of Shirley Kaplan (the late Harold) and Manny (Shirley) Collier, both of Silver Spring.
Ed was a practicing attorney for 32 years and a Maryland District Court Judge for Montgomery County for 25 years. Born in Millville, N.J. in 1923, he was a graduate of George Washington University and its Law School, earning a B.S. degree in accounting and a law degree.
During World War II, he volunteered for induction on Dec. 30, 1942 and served in North Africa and Italy and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with a bronze star; he later served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre; he was honorably discharged on Oct. 7, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion. He was also a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Silver Spring.
A memorial service was held in the chapel at Riderwood Village, with a graveside service and internment at National Memorial Park, Falls Church.
