Elaine Parker died on May 28. She taught history at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda for 23 years. Parker was a member of Temple Sinai and recorded an oral history of its members. She had her bat mitzvah as an adult.

Parker was born on April 1, 1942. She was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Harold Halpern, and brother Marc Halpern. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, John Douglass; sons Alan and Steven Parker; grandchildren Rose and Matthew Parker; daughter-in-law, Sheri Parker; sister Judy Halpern (Rob Riordon); nephews Charles (Sumita) and Marc Riordon; great-niece Mira Riordon; stepson John David Douglass; and her former husband, Robert Parker.
