Esther Ellen Balsamo, of Washington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 8. Devoted wife of the late “Papa” Joe Balsamo; loving mother of Gary J. (Robin), Joe B. (Jane) and Harry A.; cherished grandmother of Adam (Denise), Jennifer (David), Danielle (Nate), Ethan and Max. Great-grandma of Jennifer’s Sloane and Isla; adored sister of Lois Brodsky (and the late Albert).
Esther was born March 3, 1939, the daughter of Commodore Harry A. Badt and Jennie Badt. She was a lifelong Washingtonian, though as a “Navy brat” often lived wherever her father was stationed. A career woman, she worked 37 years at The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, until age 81.
