Fay Sommerfield died at her home in Annandale on April 25 from dementia. Born in 1927, she spent her childhood in Hong Kong. At age 13, she evacuated prior to the Japanese invasion, and spent the war years in Sydney, Australia. In 1954, she married Stanley Sommerfield and moved to Washington. After a long career at the World Bank as executive assistant to Senior Vice President Sir Peter Cargill, she retired to Nokomis, Fla., in 1989. She returned to Washington after Stanley’s death in 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Sue, of Alexandria, her son, Mark (Evita), and granddaughter, Camille, of Annandale, and numerous nieces and nephews.
