Of Crofton, Md., died of natural causes on Nov. 1, at age 93. He is survived by his wife, Dale Gelman, his children Michael (Susie), Jay (Jill), and Jana Gelman, and his grandchildren Asher (Mati) Gelman, Sarah (Dan) Rueven, Rachel, Cora and Remy. He was born on June 17, 1921 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Jacob and Yetta Gelman. He graduated from Queens College in 1942 and immediately enlisted in the Navy. While at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, he married Marcelle Shacks with whom he had his first son, Michael. Hy served aboard a destroyer in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and attained the rank of lieutenant commander.
After the war, Hy returned to Annapolis where he worked as a CPA. After Marcelle passed away, Hy married Dale Berkman Odesser with whom he had two children, Jay and Jana.
