Julius Murray Abrams, born May 30, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y., died March 30 in Rockville at age 89. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Willens, and his children Ronald Abrams and Diane Brossart; as well as two stepchildren, Michael and Gina Willens. Other survivors include his daughter-in-law Helen Abrams; grandchildren Brian Abrams and wife Susie, Jason Abrams and wife Kristina, Eric Brossart and Justin Brossart. Great-grandchildren include Emily and Allie Abrams, and Jackson Abrams.
Known by most as “Jules,” he had a creative spirit and lifelong love of theater, having studied acting at the Ornato Studio for the Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, N.Y. Through this experience, he received an offer to act in a stock company called The Madcap Players in Dallas, Texas. This was followed by acting opportunities in community theater such as Northern Virginia Community College and Wayne State University in Detroit. He hosted a radio talk show for three years on station WIID in Garden City, Mich., during the 1970s.
Abrams also acted in and directed plays at the Jewish Community Center in Detroit. By the mid-1990s, he volunteered to be the director-playwright for the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center in Silver Spring. He taught drama in various senior residences in Maryland and Washington, and also published books titled Return Engagement Plays for Seniors, which have been performed in senior centers and residences throughout the country.
