On Aug. 14, Leonard M. Gross of Wheaton/Silver Spring, Maryland, unexpectedly passed away.
He was the beloved husband of the late June Richmond Gross; devoted father of Marshall R. Gross, Ronald P. Gross and Elliott R. Gross; loving brother of Lila Dua, and the late Eleanor Gross, Estelle (Lynn) Marks, Paul Gross and Shelly Gross, cherished grandfather of Erica Gross, Edward Michael Gross, Stephan Gross, Sarah Gross, Phillip Gross and Jeremy Gross; also survived by great-grandchildren Ari Moshe Gross and David Mordecai Gross.
After serving in WWII in the Pacific and receiving a Purple Heart he came home, attended college on the GI bill, got married and was a successful insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for many years. After retiring at age 65 he attended classes at the U of MD until around age 90-95 and worked part time until around age 80-82 for a government contractor working on a phone line and researching on a computer. He was very involved in the Holiday Park Senior Center attending various activities, exercising and becoming a tai chi instructor until the Covid era. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he came in contact with as he had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to sing, dance, do cartwheels, etc.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA), Fisher House Foundation or any other military-associated charity.
