Proud of Omeish

Regarding “JCRC rescinds honor for Fairfax County school board member” (May 27):
As a Jewish parent of a child in Fairfax County Public Schools, I am horrified at the community backlash against Abrar Omeish, at-large member of the Fairfax County School Board, for her May 13 tweet, which shared her views on the latest round of violence in Israel-Palestine. In particular, I am appalled by the cruelty displayed by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington (JCRC) in rescinding its plans to honor Omeish due to the content of her tweet.

JCRC in no way speaks for me or the unprecedented number of American Jews who agree with Omeish’s perspective on Israeli state violence and oppression of Palestinians. I am proud to have her represent my family on the school board.
