D.C.’s self-inflicted injury
All the District of Columbia has to do is follow existing precedent of Alexandria/Arlington to return to Maryland (“District’s last-in-the-nation primary is just the latest affront,” June 16). Two senators, House representation, state government to get out from Congressional committees run by people from other regions and different values. (Land that had been ceded by Virginia to form D.C. was returned a more than a century ago.)
This is a self-inflicted, unnecessary injury by D.C. government.
There is zero realistic possibility of D.C. becoming a state.

Respond to cause of
terror attacks
Sorrow, sympathy and unity are definitely called for (“Outrage, vulnerability after Orlando killings,” June 16). But much more important than a moment of silence in Congress is recognizing the root cause of the horrific terrorist attacks all over the world. We must respond directly to the philosophical and religious imperatives creating and inspiring such murder and hatred — radical Islam.
