Michelle Smith, a Washington-area philanthropist, died on Sept. 23, surrounded by her family. The daughter of artist Clarice Smith and the late Richard E. Smith, Michelle recently served as the president of the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation.
Preceding her work as the president, Michelle served as vice president of product design and development for Charles E. Smith Residential Realty, where she worked on creating high rises in Chicago, Boston, Florida, New York and Washington.
In addition to her positions with the Charles E. Smith Companies, Michelle also served on various councils and boards, including, The Aspen Institute Board of Trustees, Mayo Clinic Leadership Council, Kennedy Center International Committee, National Gallery of Art Trustees Council, Hebrew University Board of Governors and the Smithsonian American Art Museum Board of Commissioners.
Michelle is survived by her mother, Clarice Smith; daughter, Stacy Smith Liss; son, Michael Smith Liss (Lauren); brother, David Bruce Smith; and grandchildren, Leon and Maddox Smith Liss.
