Mindel Goldstein Shore died on Oct. 17. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton, in 2017 after 58 years of marriage. Her family includes children, Lisa (Tim), Amy (Rich) and Joel (Paige); and four grandsons, Daniel, Ben, Jonathan and Zachary.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1928, she was her high school’s valedictorian and won the Governor-General’s Gold Medal for the highest matriculant in the province of Quebec. She received a master’s degree in social work from McGill University (magna cum laude).
Mindel worked in the Child Guidance Clinic of Montreal’s Children’s Hospital. In 1964, she, Milton and their family moved to Silver Spring.
Mindel was active in Fair Housing of Montgomery County, Women Strike for Peace, and the anti-Vietnam War movement. She very proud to have worked with I.F. “Izzy” Stone, a prominent progressive journalist on an anti-HUAC committee, and to participate in arranging bail for anti-Vietnam War protesters and housing them in sleeping bags in her basement. Mindel worked full time for 32 years at the Community Psychiatric Clinic.
