Misguided opposition

As a parent of three University of Maryland students, an activist in Jewish communal affairs and chairman of a national synagogue organization, I am disappointed in the Washington JCRC’s opposition to Del. Ben Kramer’s bill to compel publicly funded higher education institutions to withdraw from groups advocating boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel (“Boycott bill sparks heated capital debate,” WJW, March 13). The misguided JCRC opposition to the bill emboldens BDS supporters to redouble efforts to delegitimize and isolate Israel. Fortunately, thus far, only the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, pays dues to such an anti-Israel, anti-Semitic group. We should be proud that other Maryland institutions have resisted discrimination against Israel. Our JCRC should promote the Kramer bill, not encourage those who undermine Israel’s economic and academic interests.

Never miss a story.
