Moti’s Grill shuts, will reopen as Al Ha’esh

Moti’s Grill, a kosher Mediterranean restaurant in Rockville, closed Monday for remodeling with plans to reopen as an Israeli barbecue named Al Ha’esh, which means “on the fire” in Hebrew.

Gideon Sasson, owner of Moti’s Grill and Moti’s Market — the kosher food store will remain open while the eaterie is remodeled — said the renovations were prompted by a desire to give the kosher restaurant a clearer Israeli identity.

Sasson said the plans call for creating the experience of an Israeli shipudia, which features a long metal barbecue in the front of the restaurant, open for diners to see. He said Al Ha’esh is expected to open around Aug. 25.
