Not high art

0

Your article “ ‘Klinghoffer’: a drama onstage and off” (WJW, Oct. 23), inappropriately praised the opera as “one of the 20th century’s most haunting works.” A work that romanticizes and rationalizes the work of terrorists is not high art.

The article also makes the unsubstantiated claim that the librettist, Alice Goodman, was blacklisted, without at least attributing the assertion to Ms. Goodwin or anyone else. The viewpoint of what is ostensibly a news article is made abundantly clear by the last paragraph in which the authors state that audience protest at the end “was drowned out by the sounds of sobs and applause.”

This is the kind of slanted coverage one would expect of The New York Times on any subject dealing with terrorism directed against Israel or Jews.
